Kinja'd!!!

Yesterday, my buddy and I decided to head down to Scotts Valley in California to visit the Canepa Motorsports Museum hoping to just see a Rothman's Porsche 962c. Little did we know, there was an even more extensive collection of Porsches than we had expected (and one article of $kaybait, a 288 GTO and two 959s in the showroom below the museum). These are what I was able to take pictures of.

For those who don't know, the Canepa Motorsports Museum is nestled in Scott's Valley off highway 17 in California right before Santa Cruz. It is host to not only the museum but also the restoration and sales showroom.

Sorry about the focus and quality. I only had a phone and my body was too aroused, excited and overwhelmed to contain itself. I'm not ashamed to admit, I almost dragoned the Tyrrell six wheeler and Rothmans 962c. While admiring the Tyrrell, I also spotted some interesting features about it. If you look closely at the close up of the front, you can see the black front splitter is actually made of wood. At the back, you can see the brakes are mounted towards the centerline of the car instead of inside the wheel where one would expect the brakes to be. There also appears to be a starter motor within the car as well. That makes me wonder if the omission of a starter motor is a fairly recent thing?

Thanks for posting these awesome pics. I grew up about a mile from their facility... used to see that silver 959 on the back roads from time to time. Word around town was that it was a conversion, is it the real deal?

Well shit, I went there over Christmas Break and was going to post my own photodump, serves me right for being lazy haha. I about crapped my pants when I saw the 288 GTO, couldn't believe it was just sitting in the back corner by the offices. Mark Donohue's Javelin and the 959 weren't there when we went but there was a P1 and XJ220 in the workshop so those were cool to see as well.

When I was a kid I wanted to be an astronaut and the President!

Since growing up i've only wanted to be Bruce Canepa.

This feeling gets particularly strong during August when I watch him drive the most legendary race cars ever, year after year.

President is for amateurs.

Damn, I need to check this place out.

I lived in Santa Cruz for 2 years and still live in the Bay Area, and of course while I know about Canepa I've never been - nor did I know they had a museum open to the public!

Haha yeah, I was staggered by the compactness of it. Then I saw the Rothmans Porsche and the Tyrrell and lost my shit. Man, I would have loved to see an XJ220!

You definitely should! My pictures do not do that place justice. They had flat nose Porsches too but for some reason my phone didn't save the pictures I took of the flat noeses. the best part though is that it's completely free!

That must have been an awesome sight as a kid. From what I saw, it looked like the real deal. The dash and center consoles looked like it was a legit 959. I didn't spend too much time looking at it though since I pretty much had a sensory overload from all the cars there so I was practically walking around all over the place while shaking uncontrollably and struggling to catch my breath.

I know, right? Actually, all those cars were a lot smaller than I expected them to be, 917's especially. My camera's being weird but here's a crap photo of the XJ220, you can't see from this angle but the engine was sitting behind it and it's amazing how small that was as well. There was also an EB110 there and what looked like F40 rims piled up in a corner too, it was like a early-90s supercar party.

Mother of god! That EB110 is the bee's knees. I would've broke down into complete gibberish if I saw it.

It was definitely surreal, man. Pics of the P1 and better shots of the Jag and Bug:

What was weird to me was how all the workers were used to these amazing cars, dudes were just walking past them without a second glance. Meanwhile I'm flipping my shit on the balcony fifty feet away like a 13-year-old girl who saw Bieber in person.
